TABLES INSPIRED BY CONTINENTAL DRIFT

During London Design Fair, Kullaro will be introducing the Tekton Valley and Tekton Ridge tables. Made from black magmatic diabase, these tables take their inspiration from how the Earth’s continental plates are pressed together and move apart, thus constantly creating new ridges and valleys on our planet.

From black diabase, a hard, magmatic type of rock, Kullaro has created two similar yet different tables. By working with a thicker starting material they have developed a table top that curves in an untraditional manner and creates a new exciting expression without compromising on its functionality. The name of the tables, Tekton, comes from the Greek word for “one who creates” and is inspired by how the Earth is constantly changing and creating new formations on our planet’s surface.

INSPIRATION

-“By working more vigorously with a thicker piece of diabase, we were able to produce a table top that reflects how the continental plates collide and rise up like a mountain ridge or plunge downwards like a valley. The geological theory of continental drift is called plate tectonics and has derived its name from the Greek word tekton, which means “one who creates”. We really don’t think we could have found a more suitable name for the tables of the same series, which visually represent the phenomenon that is constantly taking place in the Earth’s surface. TEKTON VALLEY and TEKTON RIDGE.”
